Regent Street is ready for Christmas
Last week Life and Style talked about Oxford Street turning on their lights, so let’s see how Regent Street did.
Although there was miserable weather, thousands gathered to celebrate the annual switch on with Take That members Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen at around 5pm, and was followed by fireworks. Jessie J, Jessie Ware and The Jersey Boys also performed.
The theme for the lights this year took inspiration from the movie A Night At The Museum: Secret Of The Tomb, and statues from the film came to life along the street.
There was also a chance for visitors to meet film characters from the upcoming DreamWorks animation Penguins of Madagascar as well as characters from Kung Fu Panda and How To Train Your Dragon 2.
Carnaby Street took a more traditional route with snowflakes and a bright red theme.
London’s Heart fm breakfast presenters Emma Bunton and Jamie Theakston hosted the event.
Take That said in a statement: “Turning on the Christmas lights in London is like the starter gun for the main event. It’s the official start to the party season.”
